Ultherapy is the pioneer of high-intensity-frequency ultrasound (HIFU)
technology in aesthetic field that received FDA certification in 2009 as a non-invasive skin tightening device with 'lifting' effects for the face.
Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound to heat tissues up to a temperature of 65°C to 70°C. After a full treatment, 8,000 to 10,000 independent coagulation points are formed across multiple depths. These thermal coagulation points may immediately tighten the SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) layer, stimulating collagen production and remodelling. The result is safe, precise skin tightening and lifting, creating a firm, sculpted contour for the lower face and restoring youthful, rejuvenated appearance.
Most other HIFU devices don't have in-built real-time imaging hence may cause unnecessary complications when energy is delivered blind-folded.

Dr Tim advises that after completing Ultherapy, collagen production takes about 3 to 6 months to reach its optimal state, and the results typically last for 1 to 2 years. Post-treatment care should focus on hydration and sun protection. For the first two weeks, it’s recommended to avoid saunas, do not use ice packs, harsh skincare products ie various acids, or exfoliate. Lastly, maintaining a regular lifestyle and healthy diet is essential in prolonging the effects of the treatment.
If you want to maintain optimal skin condition, a follow-up visit about six months later is recommended. Typically, a second treatment for maintenance can be done after 10-12 months.
Contraindications
Please advise should you have any implants, plates, screws, facial surgeries or previous aesthetic treatments such as fillers or threads in the area.
Any open wounds, infections, or abscesses will need to be treated first prior to Ultherapy.
Aftercare
Your skin may look slightly flushed, mildly swollen, and warm for the first hour. This is normal.
Please refrain from using cool-packs, abrasive or acidic cosmeceutical products for two weeks and also remember to use sunscreen.

Ultherapy ultrasound lifting has been FDA-approved as a non-invasive skin tightening treatment with a lifting effect. There is very minimal to no downtime. After treatment, some people may experience redness, swelling, warmth, fullness, or a tingling sensation, but there's no need to be overly concerned. These are normal reactions and will gradually subside within a few hours.
The effects of Ultherapy is gradual and improves in time by stimulating ongoing collagen production, promoting a healthier dermal layer, and restoring the skin’s thickness and elasticity. Your skin usually feels immediately tighter after the procedure. You may notice lifting effects within a month, visible changes within three months, and the best results will appear after six months.
The U.S.-made Ultherapy device is equipped with in-built real-time imaging and the patented DeepSEE® technology. This allows users to observe tissue layers up to 8mm deep, including the SMAS fascia layer. Parameters may be adjusted based on location and skin conditions in real time, making the treatment safer and more effective.
Without ultrasound imaging, treatment is therefore delivered blind-folded. Skin at the same location may be 2mm thick in one person and 4mm in another. Energy delivered at the wrong depth may lead to unwanted and unnecessary complications.
The principles of the two treatments are different, with the main difference being their depth of action. Thermage uses monopolar current to deliver a large area-based heating, targeting superficial skin tissues for tightening. Ulthera operates on the principle of micro focused high-frequency sound waves, applying point-based heating to contract the SMAS in order to achieve a lifting effect. The two treatments complement each other rather effectively, and Dr Tim often utilises both modalities.
